All is Well with My Soul

“God saw everything that God had made, and indeed, it was very good.” Genesis 1:31

We are beginning a brand-new year – let’s discuss for a moment whether or not we (our souls/our spirits) are ready. Have you known people who spend their whole lives waiting – waiting to do this, waiting to do that? They think that if they keep working and keep waiting that life will be okay. Or, perhaps, they work their whole lives and wait for retirement, and then they think they will be able to live. Is that a way to live?

So, let’s talk about the soul – your soul, my soul. The soul is where we really live and where we will always be, each of us in our own space. We have often talked about our body but what about our soul? The soul is really exactly where we are at any given second; that is where we live and where we will always live. Let’s realize before we go on, that we are a soul with the body rather than a body with a soul.

If you look into the mirror and look at yourself, you are not the face looking back at you in the mirror. You are that which is observing the face in the mirror. That doesn’t show up on any mirror or on any physical measuring device we have on this entire planet. You are not your name, your social security number, or your occupation. You are more. You are eternally light and a child of God. This is your purpose for being here. You are not what you notice; you are the noticer of what you notice.

Think about that for a few minutes. Have I confused you yet? That was a bit deep so you might want to reread it and think about it before you go on.

I pray you give up the belief once and for all that you can never die. Your outer clothing, your body may die, but you will live eternally. The observer/the noticer lives forever. Each second we live is a brand new, unique moment in the universe, a moment that will never be again. We record each of these seconds within our soul. Yes, we will live on and hopefully in our heavenly home.

What do we teach our kids? Usually we teach them that two and two make four, and Paris is the capital of France. What we need to teach our kids across the entire planet is that each person is a unique creation of God. The kids are unique; they are a marvel. In all the years that have passed, there has never been another child like them – their legs, their arms, their clever fingers, the way they move.   And those of us who have grandchildren, hopefully are teaching them the very same thing.

When we look at a group of young people, in a school, in the movie theater, in the mall – we may find a Shakespeare, a Michelangelo, a Beethoven, or eventually a future President of the United States in the year 2040, standing right here in front of us today because they literally have the capacity to do anything they choose to do. So do you through the power that exists within you (your spirit, your soul) and that which came from God to you as a child of God.

John Holt tells a wonderful story about himself learning to play the cello. He says, “Most people would say what I am doing is learning to play the cello. But these words carry into our minds a strange idea that there exist two very different processes: (1) learning to play the cello; and (2) playing the cello. They simply state, I will do the first until I have completed it, at which point I will stop the first process and begin the second. In short, I will go on learning to play until I have learned to play and then I will begin to play. Of course, this is nonsense. There are not two processes, but one. We learn to do something by doing it. There is no other way.”

This is the case with your soul also. You are in a classroom called life. You are here for soul growth (for lack of a better way to put it); soul growth is your purpose. Your life is not going to change dramatically when you are through with some course. You are what you seek to be right now. You are in a progression. Later on it doesn’t change; the world just confers on you what you already are.

You too, in your life, might be looking at some distant time when you can be a success. Yet everything, even your failures, has added to the growth of your soul. You are living a success in growth right now. Your human soul is intricate, strange, elusive, subtle, full of forces we do not understand, alive with appetites, hopes, fears, dreams. This soul is your instrument; you must learn to play it, if you are to master life. Together let’s journey, and let’s learn to play our soul. And this doesn’t pertain just to the young, it also pertains to the young at heart – all of us, every last one of us regardless of our age because we never stop learning, growing, processing.

Bennett Cerf relates this story about an old bus bumping along a back road in the South. “In one seat of the bus sat an old man. He was holding a bunch of fresh flowers. Across the aisle from him was a young girl whose eyes came back again and again to the fresh flowers. The time came for the old man to get off the bus. Impulsively he thrust the flowers into the girl’s lap. “I can see,” he said, “you like flowers and I think my wife would like for you to have them. I’ll tell her I gave them to you.” The girl accepted the flowers and then watched the old man get off the bus and walk through the gate of a small cemetery.”

Question: was it the body of the old man who gave the flowers to the girl, or was it the soul who empowered the old man’s body which did the wonderful deed? You are a three-fold being. You are spirit, soul, and body. These are coexistent. We have talked many times about how God is not confined to a locality. The kingdom of God is everywhere and within you. The Bible states that you are made in the image of God – this refers to your soul. God is the real of your being. It follows that all the powers attributed to God the creator may become operative within you, as you and I are the created ones.

. Let me stop there and not just allow the words to go past you.  You live right in the presence of God and angels in heaven at all times. If you are going through what seems to be a desert place in your life realize that it is filled with angelic messengers, but like Job, we may just not know it at the time.

For now we see in the mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully.” 1 Corinthians 13:12

Spirit is the source of your soul and your body. Hence its ruling power. Its works are so swift and so transcend the limitations of matter, that the natural human cannot comprehend it and hence calls them miracles.

When I lived in Dallas, I was in a nonprofit organization that worked with the homeless in another organization called Dallas Foundation to help those who sought assistance. Once while I was walking up to the door, I walked past a homeless man who was sitting on the curb. I said hello to him and he said hello to me. Then I thought – all of us feel homeless at some time. We feel as if we are away from God. We feel as if there is a great separation between us and our good and what we are seeking in our life. But this is not true. This was a great teaching that all the workers at the Dallas Foundation focused on teaching the clients who came to them for food and rest. They were never separated away from God. The man sitting on the curb was as connected to God as was anyone else – giver or receiver.

Sometimes the lessons in our life can be rough. They are taken into our soul and make us “soul sick.”

In Psalms 19:7 it says, “The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul . . .”
In our beloved 23rd Psalm it says, God “. . . restores my soul. . .” (Ps. 23:3) So it is.

Your soul belongs to God. You are a child of God. The soul needs to rest. Do you know how your soul finds rest? By turning itself over to Spirit, just as the body finds rest by turning itself over to the soul. The soul inside of you, that part of you which is eternal – your memory, your conscious, your subconscious, your thinking, and your feeling.

Each one of us is a unique recipe. Like your fingerprint, there is no one else in the world quite like you. Imagine that a glass of water is your soul. It is full of that which you have put into it, memories, and experiences, good and bad, things you have learned from the lessons of life. You have this and then your subconscious mind is like a sponge. It has soaked up everything and holds it in your memory. Sometimes you may wonder why you are not experiencing all you should. Perhaps you are bringing up past experiences of your life. But all of this equates to your soul.

Your soul is progressive. Every step of the way it must move forward. The soul must meet and overcome its limitations. Unfoldment in you means bringing forth Divine ideas in the soul and bringing these ideas into expression in the body.

You are a spiritual being and immortal soul on an immortal journey. God is with you every step of the way. When we say you are meant for greatness, it is not just an idle saying from the pulpit. It is the absolute truth. Pray to God to restore, and to revive your soul, it can happen in you. No experience, no matter how bad it has been in your life, can keep you from your onward journey.

My first car was a convertible – a Studebaker convertible, and an old one. But I loved that car, I waxed it and made it beautiful, almost like brand-new – except inside, the engine, and the front dashboard was a mess. To turn on the heat you had to turn on the radio first – I’m talking a mess, but I loved it. And like that car, we can look good on the outside but on the inside we may be depressed, sad, anxious, fearful – should I go on. The point is that we can revive the inside of the car to make it as beautiful as the outside. We are, I will say again, a child of God. We are that shiny, beautiful, waxed car. And we move forward and grow and become full within our soul.

The purpose of your life here on earth is to help your soul to grow. When we leave earth, leave our physical body, we will take with us all we have become. If a plant is denied its sustenance, it withers. So your soul withers when you deny it the love and beauty that are its sustenance. If you look at my body, if you look at your body, it is the sum total of the animal world. In its growth it has had to experience life in nearly every type of elemental form. These memories are part of your soul.

If I were to hold in my hand the egg of an eagle, we might say that inside the egg there is the body of an eagle which is developing. But inside this egg, expressing life when it is cracking out of the egg will be the soul of the eagle. This soul will have God implanted memories. It will have a directional system that knows where to fly and when. It will know how to find food. It will know ahead of time without being taught how to live as an eagle because it has the instinct of the soul of that animal.

Your soul is always jubilant and lighthearted when it is traveling the road of spiritual progression. You feel giddy and happy inside even when things outside are not going so well. When the soul is lifted up, it becomes positive in body, and the affairs outside of you are always affected by being lifted up also.

Spiritual inspiration quickens you to the awareness that you are a living soul and not just a human body. Your life is progress. Your life is mastery. Every new spiritual realization makes finer and stronger the beautiful texture of your soul. The soul does not develop by following the rules and regulations of men and women; it only develops through following God.

In Jeremiah 13:17 it says, “. . . my soul will weep in secret. . .” How many times have you had a smile on your face when you felt unhappy inside? How many times have you gone through something and yet you are not really there because your soul is just tired? It is fatigued through the experiences and lessons it has gone through.

James 1:2-3, “My brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of any kind, consider it nothing but joy, because you know that the testing of your faith produces . . .” soul quality.” and

“Therefore rid yourselves of all sordidness and rank growth of wickedness, and welcome with meekness the implanted word that has the power to save your souls.” (Jas. 1:21). So get rid of all those anxious and wicked thoughts within yourself, and only allow the word of God to be planted within you – in your conscious and your subconscious mind. That implanted word of God is the truth about you and that truth is unchangeable. Allow yourself to turn to God, and trust the power that can take a seed. and lead it to grow into a gorgeous flower – and that flower can be you, and can save your soul, as it says in James.

In Matthew 11:28-30 it says, “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest FOR YOUR SOULS. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” If we look only to the outside world with our five senses to our problems, to the mountains in our life, we can soon become very fatigued in our conscious mind and our subconscious. This is the when God can step in and give us rest.

One of the most powerful statements in our Bible is in Luke 1:46, “. . . “My soul magnifies the Lord.” I pray that is what you do. I pray you take Spirit and use your subconscious and your conscious mind, your soul to magnify the Lord into all areas of your life.

Countless times, I have seen the will of the soul overcome the challenges of the outer as well as illness in the physical body. When dire prognoses are spoken, there is something that speaks louder in the soul of those individuals that say “That’s not true; I will overcome.”

And of course, they do!

In Hebrews 6:19-20 it states, “We have this hope, a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters the inner shrine behind the curtain, where Jesus, a forerunner on our behalf, has entered, having become a high priest forever . . .”

What is the inner shrine behind the curtain? I have flesh and I have bones and I might think as I look into a mirror this is all there is of me. You may think too that is all there is of you. But I tell you, there is something else behind this curtain that is making this curtain move. It is a place where you can be electrified with God and know God to be absolutely true at every moment.

As we look at 1 Peter 1:22. We can see how our soul pivots toward God. We might wonder how to actually do it. It can be so simple; try this: close your eyes and turn to God and say, “God, take my conscious mind and my subconscious mind and fill me with the whole Spirit of God, and allow this mind of mine to surrender with humbleness.” Allow yourself to look inside, within. “Now that you have purified your souls by your obedience to the truth so that you have genuine mutual love, love one another deeply from the heart.” (1 Pet. 1:22) Do you know if we were to translate our Bible today in modern language, the word they use for heart means your subconscious mind? Imagine if you purify your subconscious mind; fill it with the pure spirit of God. What is going to happen if you fill a sponge with water? It leaks. Your subconscious mind is like a sponge. It will be filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit, the whole Spirit of God, continuously.

You have been born anew. Where are you born anew? If you want to be born again, where does it happen? Do I have to find another mother? Do I have to be reborn with a NEW body? Do I have to have new flesh? Or do I have to have a newly enlightened and progressed soul inside of this flesh? If you have a new mind inside of you, the mind that was in Christ Jesus, you are new and everything changes. Your body regenerates after the fact. It is the effect of the cause.

Continuing the Scripture from 1 Peter “You have been born anew, not of perishable but of imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God.” (I Pet. 1:23) , the moment your mind has been filled, it will last forever. 1 Peter 2:25, “For you were going astray like sheep. . .”   We’ve all done this, gone astray like sheep. I have done this; I have looked so much toward my problems. I have focused only on them. I have said to my problems, “Oh great problem, you are my God. You are my mountain and I am very scared. I shake in your presence.” I have taken in the problem with all my five senses looking out. Believe me, I have been filled, not with the Holy Spirit, but with my problem in my soul. I keep it there for eternity if I choose to, or I seek the truth. “For you were going astray like sheep, but now you have returned to the shepherd and guardian of your souls.” (1 Pet. 2:25)

Your soul will constantly be growing and evolving into something greater, and effects in your mind and your body will follow. It is as it should be. You never stop new ideas and concepts in your human mind, or new inventiveness for your human body to move towards because your soul will be ever urging you on to greater unfoldment. Mark 2:22 states, “No one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost and the skins as well; but one puts new wine into fresh wineskins.”

Our souls crave that which can come only from God. He is the one presence and power in our lives. Wherever we are, we can turn to God in a moment’s notice, regardless of where we are, what we’re doing, or the circumstances of our life.

May we each turn to God and ask him to fill us with His presence and power, and surrender ourselves and everything in our lives to Him. Let’s center ourselves in God, and then our mind and our hearts/our souls will be at peace.

All is well with my soul, with my body, and with my world.

And may this year show great progression within your soul as it follows the path and reaches out to God.

God bless each of you as you enter into this exciting world of 2015.
