It is the week following the Resurrection; let’s look at our lives and how we can become one with God.
We all face challenges and when we do, we get the most relief and answers when we go to God. Sometimes, that is not an easy thing to do because we cannot See God. He is invisible, so to speak. BUT, you can FEEL God within you. Take a deep breath and feel the Holy Spirit within…in your thinking…mentally you know without a doubt this is truth. The Light turns on where there is darkness.
Our new on line church which should be open by the middle of summer is named THE LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS.
Last night Paul and I were blessed to see David Jeremiah at the Cedar Park Center here in Austin, Texas. Just the two of us and over 7,000 other believers. What a wonderful message he had. If you ever get a chance to go, do it. Do it for you; you will never regret it. Plus he is on so many radio and television stations. Check him out. His message last night was THE RESSURECTION OF HOPE.
And I started writing this message a few days ago, and last night I got it. Our hope is always there; we just have to go within and realize it. Never be a Thomas. The full gifts of God can come through you. You just have to open your eyes and heart and mind.
So, let’s talk about some of these very basic thinking gifts.
No matter how confused or messed up we are and sometimes have what I call “crazy thinking,” we all have the perfect potential to bring forth all there is that is given to us so freely by God. Our souls are the thinking and feeling together; and that will remain with us forever.
We are filled with the Holy Spirit and our souls – all our thoughts – are potentially perfect God thought. The Bible talks about being filled with the Holy Spirit, the whole spirit of God. God has given each of us the ability to have perfect thoughts – sharp wisdom, understanding the depth of spirituality. Well, we each can because our God has given us this gift, this ability. All we have to do is claim it and call it into existence.
Let’s think about the mental gifts we have been given. Those of Will, Order, Wisdom, Understanding, Imagination, and Renunciation. These can create in us a wonderful life; help us climb that mountain and reach to mountain top..
Let’s talk about these six mental powers.
The powerful God-given foundation of Will.
In John 4:34 [KJV], Jesus said, “My meat is to do the will of God that sent me, and to finish God’s work.” When Jesus said this, what did He mean by “meat?” Ordinarily, it’s the main course. His main course was to do the will of God.
And in John 6:39 [KJV], Jesus said, “This is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me, I should lose nothing.”
Will is the executive department in this mind God has given us, and the human (you and I) is God’s executive. Remember, when talking to it, that it’s a good friend. It’s walking with you, as are the other fundamentals.
You have a mountain up ahead, and you call upon Will. What is Will going to do for you? Will is going to help you direct and control. It is your determining seat of choice inside of you. It is your ability to decide, and to move directly in line with your decision, regardless of the difficulty or the obstacles that lie ahead. It is the “push” that will not let you quit.
This is the moment also when we move from willfulness (which is always destructive) to willingness (which is always constructive). It is a surrender of the old ways. It is thought to be the faculty that most distinguishes the human as a child of God. That is, one who is capable of willing the direction of his/her life.
A Chinese proverb says, “Great souls have Wills; feeble ones have only wishes.” That is where, with spiritual authority, you use “I will be healed!” not “God, I wish I could be healed.”
“Not my will but Thine be done.” Luke 22:42
What about the next fundamental – Order.
You may have heard this story before, but let me tell it again. A man once dreamed that he died, and immediately, he entered a large room with a huge banquet table filled with a great variety of food. People seated at the table were obviously hungry, but their chairs were five feet from the table, and they were somehow riveted to their seats. Furthermore, their arms were too short to reach the food on the table.
Everyone was fighting, quarreling, and pushing each other trying to get the only five-foot-long spoon. Finally, in an awful scene, a strong bully grabbed the spoon, picked up some food, and turned it to feed himself, only to discover the spoon was so long that as he held it out, he could not touch his mouth. The food fell off. Immediately, someone else grabbed the spoon, tried to feed himself, and again failed. The man observed his own dream and said, “This is hell.”
Then the dream took him to another room. This room was exactly like the first in all respects. Yet these people were satisfied. They had wonderful, happy expressions on their faces. Here no one was fighting for the spoon. In fact, one man held the five foot handle and fed another person. They took turns feeding each other, and all were satisfied. The man observed this dream and said, “This is heaven.”
Psalms 37:23 [KJV] says, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.”
I Corinthians 14:40 [KJV], says, “Let all things be done decently and in order.”
Order inside of your life is law, logic, and adjustment. When you need to reach that space, say the simplest prayer that has ever been prayed, and yet one of the most powerful. Just close your eyes for a millisecond and pray: Divine Order. When you do, you reconnect with all that is Order. You connect with God who is the Divine Order.
Now let’s think about Wisdom.
One of the main problems of human beings today is that we don’t think enough. We, in religion, life, politics, and society – do as we are told. We fought years ago for our independence, and yet we gave up the power of thinking, easily.
Most people only think secondary thoughts. Secondary thoughts are thoughts from the thinking of others. They never seize the power themselves and have few original thoughts.
We need to think more about everything and make our own decisions. I hallenge you to take time each day to lay down your work, your burdens and to just think – just think.
How do you do that? Especially in a practical way when you are making decisions about your life?
When you are making a decision, you go to God for Wisdom. This is the power of great judgment. Wisdom is the voice of God within you. It is the inner guide, and the inner teacher. Our greatest need today is to listen to the Lord.
In Proverbs 4:5 [NRSV], it says, “Get wisdom; get insight.”
If there is something in your life that is perplexing, and you go to God and seek the Wisdom of God, you will get Wisdom. It’s not like going to another human being for their opinion of how to think. When you go to God, Wisdom is complete and finished. You get it in a flash, and you have the complete idea. Everything you need to know comes to you. This Source within you is wholeness, completeness, and fulfillment.
Now our next gift is that of Understanding.
Often, you will read something in a book and you will not understand it. If you ask God for Understanding, it will come to you in a flash during your prayer time. If you read something in the Bible and you wonder what Jesus was trying to say to you, ask for Understanding and it will come to you.
This is quite different from intellectual understanding. Intellectual understanding is a fascinating thing. I love to read political columns. I’m often amazed at how two different people can come to a completely different conclusion after watching the exact same event.
Yet, if you receive Spiritual Understanding, there is only one conclusion – the right conclusion. Intellectual understanding is understanding that is realized after the collection of information from different sources outside of yourself. Spiritual Understanding is whole and complete and from God – and always right.
It is not that intellectual understanding is bad. Here we are. If you were to read this from where you are sitting with intellectual understanding, you would see the length and height, but you would not see the depth. There is a wholeness to everything. And in spiritual Understanding, you are shown that wholeness immediately. It will come to you, again, in a flash.
God-given fundamental of Imagination is another great gift.
In 1 Corinthians, it says, “The Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all imaginations and all thoughts.”
Inside of you, your imagination is the eye of consciousness. It is the projector of your potential. It goes beyond the appearances of the human eyes. It is God creating in you (and me) – mental energy.
To create, change, or expand anything in your life, you use your power of Imagination. We all have this ability; we all just don’t reach out to embrace it. Practice in your thinking time to imagine how to create something dear to your hearts.
It works very much like an architect does in the building process. The architect takes the idea that is true. Then he/she goes through what it takes to mold it and then manifest that idea.
Renunciation is the last gift in this list.
“In the book, “Feeling Good” by David D. Burns, M.D., Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania, states that the most important thing in your life is to feel good and have emotionally healthy feelings, on a day-to-day, hour-to-hour basis. Good feelings will control everything else.
“He says you can bury a stick, a tin can, or a bone, but you can’t bury a worm. You can’t bury your thoughts or feelings. A worm will find its way and crawl out. It’s the same with your feelings.”
It’s a lot harder to harness the exit of a thought or emotion than to control the entrance of a thought or emotion. It is much more difficult to control your temper than to prevent yourself from anger in the first place. You can feel good on a daily basis when you use the positive power of Renunciation.
Renunciation could also be defined as elimination.
Jesus said, “But let your statement be, ‘Yes, yes ‘ or ‘No, no’; anything beyond these is in error.” Matthew 5:37
You have the power to decree what you want in your life by saying yes to it. You also have the power of renunciation to eliminate the unwanted thoughts and habits that no longer serve you in your spiritual growth.
Renunciation is your ability in the moment, with support of God, to say NO to some situation, or thought, or emotion inside of you. You may say, “God, my best friend, come with me now and help me.” God then comes through and helps you say NO. Then you can release and forgive and eliminate old thoughts.
Also, as it dissipates the energy, it creates a vacuum, a void, inside of you. What does change do for you? It creates purity.
Luke 9:23 [KJV] says, “And he said to them all, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself.”
You are not going to deny who you are; you are affirming who you are by denying and eliminating the bad traits that keep you from the perfection of God.
Isaiah 55:7 [KJV] says, “Let the wicked forsake his way.”
You are renouncing the part of you that is not up to God’s standard.
2 Corinthians 4:1-2 [KJV] says, “[We] have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty.”
To live a wonderful life, use ALL your gifts of God. All these fundamentals are not some crazy ideas, but true good friends that you can call upon and that are available to you, as a child of God, from God directly. Take them, hold them, let them become part of your life.
They will allow you to climb that mountain.
God bless you!
Pray with me.
What a joy it is to enter into prayer; to be in prayer with each other; to be in prayer with God; to realize that we are not separate, but that God is with us, RIGHT NOW.
Right now, God is flowing through our hearts and our minds.
Dear God, I call upon Your gifts, to become fully manifested inside of me. God, I consent to this activity. I consent to the infilling of my mind and body by Your perfect, Divine Mind. The movement and activity of the whole spirit of God infills me with the Holy Spirit.
Lord, accept me as one with You in Faith, Will, Understanding, Imagination, Zeal, Power, Love, Wisdom, Order, Strength, Renunciation and Life.
Let us pray that we are a spiritual being from God, living in His spiritual universe, governed by His spiritual law.
In Jesus Christ’s name we pray . . . Amen.
