Promises, Promises

Romans 4:21 Fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.

“But you promised!” I cried to my dad as he announced we would NOT be going to the circus. How many times growing up did we look at something as a promise and then cried fowl when the pieces fell apart. That is life and how we grow and develop and learn to focus on our inner strength is the person we become.

Our entire Christian life is built on God’s promises, including those for eternal life and resurrection and that Christ will return. These two are without questions. We realize that God keeps His promises through His amazing love, faithfulness, caring and grace. Without a doubt, we know this; He is the Alpha and the Omega, and He makes the world turn or stand still.
What better way to give glory to God than by studying and living through His promises.

What? You say. How do we do that? Let’s focus on the fact that God is faithful to his promises. We don’t even need to hardly mention that because we know it is absolute. Instead, let’s talk for a few minutes (or write) about God’s promises. There are thousands in the Bible from Genesis through Revelations. A researcher named Dr. Reginald Dunlap said there were over thirty thousand promises in the Bible. Now don’t get dismayed; I am only going to mention a few.

Because as I was studying to develop this message, I soon became overwhelmed and decided to just focus on a few and the scriptures that go with them. Perhaps, I will do a series. At any rate, here is the first message on specific promises from the Bible. What better way to see and understand the actual promises than to see it in scripture.

2 Peter 1: 3 – 4 said it all when he wrote about the promises of God “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.”

So on that note, let’s look at a few of the promises that focus on the fact that HE has given us all we need to live a glorious life through Him.

God Promises You Peace. I chose this one first because PEACE is something that is very evasive, especially this day and age, as our world seems to be crumbling before our very eyes. But let’s look at the scripture.

Isaiah 26: 3 says, “You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.

Psalm 29: 11 -The LORD will give strength to His people; The LORD will bless His people with peace;

John 14: 27 – Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.;

Isaiah 54: 10 – For the mountains shall depart, And the hills be removed, But My kindness shall not depart from you, Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,” Says the LORD, who has mercy on you.

Our promise of peace from God can bring us the wisdom and knowledge that no matter what happens here today and tomorrow with an out of control world, God is here and will make sure that we are covered and that peace is ours – in our hearts, in our minds, in our souls.

It is very unproductive to live in fear, hatred, anger, disgust.  Let’s just keep our focus on the glory of the Lord and know that regardless of what happens here on this earth, we will always have peace in our lives, in our hearts, and our ultimate reward is spending a peaceful eternity with our heavenly Father.

Romans 4:21 says, that we can be “Fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised. “             And He has promised us peace.
And through the peace that we exhibit to all, God will shower us with His protection. God has promised to protect us.

Luke 10: 19 – Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Isaiah 43:2 – When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.   When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned.  Nor shall the flame scorch you.

Thessalonians 3:3 – But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.

Deuteronomy 33: 27 – The eternal God is your refuge,
And underneath are the everlasting arms;
He will thrust out the enemy from before you,
And will say, ‘Destroy!’

Proverbs 18: 10 – The name of the LORD is a strong tower;
The righteous run to it and are safe.

Psalm 46: 1 – God is our refuge and strength; a very present help in trouble.

Yes, God is our Protector and our Protection. We must always look to God to be there for us during the storms of our life and there are many storms in our personal lives as well as in the world today.

Thanks be to God for being our ally and standing beside us during these times as we focus on peace and His protection .

God promises us Safety:

Psalm 4:8 – I will both lie down in peace, and sleep;
For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.

Psalm 91: He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.”
3 Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler[a]
And from the perilous pestilence.
4 He shall cover you with His feathers,
And under His wings you shall take refuge;
His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
6 Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it shall not come near you.
8 Only with your eyes shall you look,
And see the reward of the wicked.
9 Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place,
10 No evil shall befall you,
Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
11 For He shall give His angels charge over you,
To keep you in all your ways.
12 In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.
13 You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra,
The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.
14 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;
I will set him on high, because he has known My name.
15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him,
And show him My salvation.”

Psalm 91 is a favorite of so many people because it boldly announces that God will keep us safe and will answer us when we call, be with us in trouble, deliver us…. Because we called out to Him and trust and believe in Him.

“Because he has set his love upon Me.” How wonderful and amazing. God does this for you and for me – all because He loves us and keeps His promises.

But the greatest promise God made was when he sent His only begotten Son so that whosoever believed in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life (John 3: 16).     THAT, my friends, is a promise God made, was prophesied, and became reality. That promise is what makes all the other promises a true act of grace and mercy.

Peace, Protection, and Safety, all focused toward Eternal Life.. These are the four Promises with scripture that I want to share with you today. Let’s focus on just these four throughout the week and let them carry us on that path toward perfect love – that perfect love that is Jesus Christ, Our Savior and He who will meet us at the heavenly gates of peaceful eternity.

Hebrews 10:23 says, “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.”

Remember the old adage “You can’t break God’s promises by leaning on them!” Lean On!. God wants us to lean on his promises. He wants us to stand on them. And count on them.

Let’s all STAND ON THE PROMISES OF GOD.

1. Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
Through eternal ages let His praises ring,
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.

o Refrain:
Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Savior;
Standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.

2. Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.

3. Standing on the promises I now can see
Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,
Standing on the promises of God.
4. Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God.

5. Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
List’ning every moment to the Spirit’s call,
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God.

Go In Peace and Serve the Lord who grants you this peace surrounded by His protection and safety.

God bless you all.
