Blessed with So Many Valuable Possessions

Ephesians 1: 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he[b] predestined us for adoption to sonship[c] through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, 9 he[d] made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.
Ahhh, we all have so much, so much we don’t even realize what we have. God’s blessings have rained down on us. Regardless of where you are in life, emotionally, physically, spatially, spiritually . . God has blessed you abundantly. Look around; look within – there your blessings flow.

Here is a story, maybe you have heard it, but it points out exactly how we ourselves go through life – maybe not this dramatically, but I think you can put yourself in a similar situation.

[Waylon Prendergast, 37, of Tampa, Florida, committed a spur-of-the-moment robbery while on his way home from a late-night drinking session. A very inebriated Mr. Prendergast forced his way into the house through an open upstairs window, filling a suitcase with cash and valuables before setting the living room on fire to cover his tracks. He then escaped through the back door and made his way home, chuckling all the way. Only as he turned the corner into his own street, however, and discovered three fire engines outside his house, did he realize that in his drunkenness he had, in fact, burgled and ignited his own property. His comment: “I had no idea I had so many valuable possessions.”]

I hope none of us would do anything that extreme or stupid, but we all do take what we have for granted and appreciate very little of it. We Christians need to stop and think exactly what and who this story is about. We need to focus and realize just as the man in the story did, “I had no idea I had so many valuable possessions.”

We take so much for granted. Regardless of how we love our family, we tend to take them for granted – we just know they will be there. Let’s think about the normal run of the mill comforts of home like, electricity, gas, water, our refrigerator full of food, and the computer we are on right now. And think about the jobs we hold, the doctors we can depend on….. The list goes on and on; and the amazing thing is that this list is similar for all of us, even those of us who are having some struggles right now.

Even beyond the physical blessings, there is so much that God has given us through Jesus Christ. As Paul wrote, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” (Ephesians 1:3)

And as Ephesians continues, we find our true blessings that are more important, more relevant, more everlasting than any computer or automobile…. These are the blessings Christ sent to us as He gave His life that we might live…. Now there is a blessing that no one can take away.

Continuing in Ephesians to bring this to the forefront so we can fully take it all in and hold it forever in our appreciative hearts.

Ephesians 1: 11 In him we were also chosen,[e] having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, 12 in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. 13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

Because as believers we are part of His plan that extends throughout time and that all the praise of His glory shines upon us. We were marked and sealed which is a guarantee of our eternal life with Him. This is the spiritual “blessings” available to all believers in Jesus, the Anointed One.

18 Open the eyes of their hearts, and let the light of Your truth flood in. Shine Your light on the hope You are calling them to embrace. Reveal to them the glorious riches You are preparing as their inheritance. 19 Let them see the full extent of Your power that is at work in those of us who believe, and may it be done according to Your might and power.

Yet, how do we live and “we wait as the rest of His plan is worked out.” How?  God tells us to spread the Gospel, the Good News, to all. We “wait” by actively giving of ourselves for the benefit of Him who saved us. We worship Him and adore Him. The time will come when the Lord is ready and has it in His plan. We continue life with the abundance of spiritual blessings reaped upon us as Christians. We prepare as we wait. Never taking anything for granted; never letting our guard down; never, never abandoning our Christian ideals and beliefs. We live and wait with the motto, “Be Prepared.” With all the blessings God has granted us; we are ready. And being ready, prepared, is the blessing also.

May the Lord bless you and keep you;
The blessing of being blessed is the greatest blessing of all.
May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
God is looking upon us with happiness and glee, showering us with blessings from Him.
He smiles at us as a father would his new born babe.
May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you;
He sees you; He loves you; He watches over you.
And grant you His peace.
The greatest blessing of all – being blessed and blessed with the peace that passes all understanding.

Wake up; smell the roses; see the daybreak and the sunset; love your neighbor as He loves you; spread the Light. God gave this all to us and on top of it he gave us redemption and eternal life with HIM. What other blessings could we possibly want or need.

God, forgive me for taking so much of it for granted.”

“Truly, I had no idea I had so many valuable possessons.”

Pray with me: Dear Father in Heaven, thank You for all the blessings you have bestowed on us. Thank You for walking beside us in our darkest moments. Help us to realize, to be aware of these blessings as we follow the path You have chosen for us. May we always keep our sight on You and our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen
